Nearly 20 years after Nintendo’s failed attempt at creating a viable consumer market for reality technology with the Virtual Boy, a new surge of interest in VR has been ignited in recent years and I think it’s safe to say that VR tech is here to stay this time. There are, in fact, literally dozens, if not more, different types of devices that offer the opportunity to leave this reality and immerse yourself in a computer-simulated one. Granted, some of the headsets are going to be way better than others, so I’ve decided to perform reviews of only the best ones, so that you can be kept in the know and be able to make an informed decision. So what’s the deal with 3D porn today?
Well, the relatively recent reinvention of this futuristic median can be traced all the way back to 2012, when a plucky little company, Oculus VR, decided to undertake the daunting task of producing a headset that would actually make people believe they were in another reality. Suffice it to say, they were successful. The reasons for the success of VR tech this time around when compared to the few failed attempts from back in the day is that the tech is much better. Our smartphones have more processing power than the VVirtual BoyV had. In fact our smartphones have more processing power than most PCs did in the ‘90s.
Since Oculus’ efforts proved that the time for future tech had arrived, many other hi-tech companies have decided to jump on the bandwagon. As a result, new headsets have taken on different forms and capabilities. Just to keep things simple, I see the headsets being arranged in either one of two categories: smartphone class or desktop class.
The devices found in the smartphone class not only operate with the use of a smartphone, but the phones need to be significantly advanced (no old phones), as well as be a certain size and there’s even brand compatibility to consider. Generally these headsets are going to be considerably less expensive, but are limited in their capability to the devices in the desktop class. Regardless, they work well enough to deliver stereoscopic 180° views in 3D that’ll leave you speechless.
Desktop-class devices, like the Oculus, are much more powerful and much more expensive. But the VR effect you’ll experience is way better. And in case you thought you could just go out and buy one of these pricey gadgets and hook it up to just any old PC, think again. The desktop-class headsets require an advanced PC that costs more than the headset itself. The latest headset, the PSVR, is sort of like a desktop class in the sense that it needs to be connected to a larger appliance, but not to a PC - rather it needs a PS4 game console.
At the end of the day, all of these devices can deliver movies, video games, educational tutorials and, yes, real virtual porn, in a way that’s more like living out an experience rather than merely watching it. Unfortunately, the mainstream consumer markets are still too puritanical for companies to actively promote their compatibility with 3D porn. In my reviews, you’ll find all the info you’ll need to help you determine which headset is the best for your virtual porn-watching habits.
